Introduction to Color in Film Preliminary Exercise
The Analysis of Color 11/7/2022
When creating a film, one of the producers main objectives is to implement pigmentation. The term color grading, determines how colors can be used to create mood, and increase ambience inside a film. But first- what is color, and what does it mean during content creation? Color is what identifies the tone of a scene being presented, which connects different connotations to create a specific feeling for an audience. This is significant for a film's audience to help carry on the story that is being portrayed. Amplifying the feelings that the audience may have, and drawing attention to a recurring theme in the film. The three characteristics that may build towards this task are: hue, saturation, and brightness. During the pre production, directors, cinematographers, and production designers choose their color palettes. This ultimately leads to one of the best tools into creating a moving picture, which I will be using in future tense. In this post, I will be reporting the process of me creating a color wheel inspired powerpoint, about the symbolic meanings of films of my choice. I also will note about the terms that I have analyzed inside of my slides! From this exercise, I will be able to identify the importance of knowing the role of color, and how it may play its role in the mise en scene form of creating moving pictures.
My goal for this preliminary exercise is to introduce myself to the role specific colors plays in film. By working with my partner Su-Young, we was able to work together by creating a media piece in the form of a powerpoint slide. To create our document, we used google slides to expand our creative freedom, and how we wanted our final project to look with our own separate, personal laptops/MacBooks!
Aside from the basic understanding on color and its part in the film industry, I believe it is important to note what I truly took away from this introduction. Creating a document about a new topic is somewhat difficult if you do not inquire all the materials you are supposed to write. My partner and I were fully acknowledged about how to identify, and the meanings colors had; however, going out to research different movies with scenes with particular color schemes was a trouble we found. We overcame this trouble by finding google images of movies that showed a clear view that a specific color was meant to stand out. Overall, I believe this lesson was a great substantial key to note for when I start to create my film, making it a 10/10!
